FLIGHTS
Ryanair currently fly to Pula from London Stansted on
three days of the week – Tuesdays, Thursdays and
Saturdays. From Pula Airport, the drive to Rabac and the
apartment takes only 45 minutes and is a very easy
route. Ryanair also
fly daily from Stansted to Trieste in Italy, from where
it’s a two and a half hour drive through part of
Slovenia, down into Istria to Rabac. Once on the road in
Croatia, there are some breathtaking views along the
coastline. In the summer months, easyJet fly from London
Luton to Rijeka, which is about a one and a half hour
drive to Rabac. Flight costs vary so it’s worth checking but
Trieste is often the better bargain.
CAR HIRE
Hertz seem to supply the cheapest car hire deal (there
are buses from Trieste to Croatia but driving yourself
isn’t difficult). Car hire is just less than £20 a day
for a basic car, but do check for scratches, bumps, etc.
before you leave the airport as you’re not accompanied
to your car in Italy.
If you choose Trieste bear in mind that you will need
Euros to buy petrol and then Kunas in Croatia. Petrol is
relatively cheap in Croatia – even cheaper in Slovenia.
There are approximately 10 Kunas to £1.
The drive from Trieste involves two border crossings,
some motorways and some tolls (the equivalent of approx.
70p). If you haven’t driven on foreign roads, it’s not
as daunting as it sounds and routes are very well
signed.
